Dr. Shane Mooney MD, CCFP (SEM), Dip. Sport Med

Dr. Eardley is passionate about education. He is a clinical Lecturer with the University of Toronto and is the MSK Ultrasound lead for the Sports & Exercise Medicine program at UofT. He teaches sports medicine fellows, physiatry, emergency medicine and family medicine residents from the University of Toronto. He regularly gives lectures and has been interviewed by CTV news for insight into critical sport related injuries.

Dr. Eardley believes in maximizing the potential of every office visit. He uses in-office ultrasound to help confirm diagnoses and specializes in ultrasound-guided procedures to ensure accurate results. 

​

He obtained his Bachelor of Science (Hons) from the University of Toronto and his Doctor of Medicine at McMaster University. He returned to the University of Toronto to complete his residency in Family Medicine. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Sports and Exercise Medicine at UofT. Dr. Eardley is a certified Canadian of Sport and Exercise Medicine physician (CASEM).

Dr. Eardley is a team physician for the Toronto Marlies. He is a company physician for the National Ballet of Canada. He was a physician for the 2020 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. He acts as a consultant for athletes in the CFL, Skate Canada and the Toronto Wolfpack Rugby team. He has provided medical coverage for the 2015 Pan Am Games as well as the preseason physicals for the Toronto Football Club (TFC), Toronto Argonauts and the NHL referees.

Dr. Mooney obtained his Bachelor of Science, with Honours, at Queen’s University, having majored in life sciences and minored in mathematics. He went on to achieve his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto. He remained at the University of Toronto to complete both his residency training in Family Medicine, as well as enhanced-skills training in Sport and Exercise Medicine. His academic career culminated with him obtaining his diploma from the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM).

 

His passion for sports and athletics has led Dr. Mooney to be involved with medical coverage for numerous teams and events. He was the junior team physician for the University of Toronto Men’s Basketball Team, and provided sideline coverage for the University of Toronto Football and Men’s Hockey teams. He has also provided medical coverage for the National Ballet of Canada and the All Canadian Games All-Star Basketball Showcase. 

 

When he’s not treating patients, Dr. Mooney enjoys playing soccer and tennis, reading fantasy/science fiction novels, or spending time outdoors.
